When I was invited onto the Peak Elevation Women Podcast, my first instinct was to talk myself out of it. Who wants to hear from me? I’ve spent years helping other people get comfortable with change. Turns out I’m not immune to the discomfort myself.
Lucky for me Anastasia is such a kind and gracious podcast host and before we knew it we were hitting the hour and a half mark in our chat and had to wrap it up! Time truly does fly when you’re having fun!
Episode 5 is now live: She Took the Leap: Career Change, Confidence & AI.
What we talked about
We covered a lot of ground in an hour and a half. A few highlights:
- The detour that became my career. I trained as a teacher and graduated into a hiring freeze. I moved to Fort McMurray with no plan except “they’re hiring,” and ended up teaching safety to tradespeople who’d been doing their jobs longer than I’d been an adult.
- Taking the leap into entrepreneurship. Why I started Aim to Elevate, and what scared me most about leaving the structure of corporate life.
- Why people are afraid of AI. My take: it’s not really a technology problem. It’s a change problem. People fear what nobody has explained to them.
- What technology will never replace. Empathy, trust, and the ability to make someone feel heard.
- Confidence. I don’t believe it comes naturally. You build it by doing uncomfortable things, over and over.
The line that stuck with me
The episode opens with an idea I keep coming back to: sometimes someone else sees our potential before we see it ourselves. That was true when I walked into my first safety class in Fort McMurray. It was true when I started this business. And it was true when I got this invitation.
If you’re standing at your own edge
If you feel stuck in your career, or nervous about where work is heading, this episode is for you. You don’t need the whole map. You just need the next step.
And if your organization is facing a big change, whether that’s AI, a new system, or a restructure, I’d love to talk about how to bring your people along.
